Research Fellow

Bryan Kim is a third-year Ph.D. student in Critical Game Design at RPI and will be working as a Research Fellow with the Center of Excellence for AY23-24.
His work explores the creation of digital therapeutics by connecting gaming experience with mental therapy in a virtual environment. Instead of adding a game element to existing treatments through simple points or a leaderboard system, he focuses on translating or discovering treatment effects or values from a game system, especially for children or adolescents with a mental disorder.
Bryan previously earned a Masters of Entertainment Technology at Carnegie Mellon University and gained industry experience at Epic Games (Fortnite) before coming to RPI. With this background, he aims to find a game design principle for making education and healthcare games that balances the seriousness and persuasiveness of the digital therapy game.
